KNOWING JESUS

God Seeks Relationship
The God of the universe, the creator of heaven and the earth the one who gave you life and the God who holds your life in His very hands is the same God who desires a relationship with you and has made a way for you to do so.  The Bible tells us  "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16 (NKJV)

God shows us in this verse that He loves us.  Not only does He love us, but He loves us enough that He gave us His only son.  His only Son is Jesus Christ.

We Are Sinners
More than two thousand years ago Jesus came and lived a perfect life in our place.  He was beaten, nailed to a cross and died, He was buried and on the third day He was raised from the dead.  He defeated death and the grave and He is alive forever more!  Through the death of Jesus Christ God made a way for our sins to be
forgiven.  The bible says "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. " Romans 3:23 (NKJV)

God's word says that there is a price to be paid for sin, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal Life in Christ Jesus our Lord."  Romans 6:23 (NKJV)

Because we are sinners our sin separates us from God.  God is Holy and cannot be in the presence of sin.  To remain in sin and live our lives in sin will  keep us away from God, we die spiritually.

Jesus Died For Us
Jesus came and paid a price for our sin and scripture says " But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  Romans 5:8 (NKJV)

Did you hear that?  God loves us even though we are sinners.  Jesus died for us.  We should have been the one to pay the price for our own sins, but Jesus loved us so much He came to die in our place.  Because He paid the price for our sins His death made a way for us to be reconciled to God.

Children of God
Jesus' death did so much for us, it not only paid for our sin, but He also promises us in His word that we would become God's children if we believe in Jesus.  "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name." John 1:12 (NKJV)

When we receive Christ, we become children of God.

Eternal Life
God also promised us eternal Life.  One day we all will have to face death, our final day and final breath.  We don't know when or how, but we know we must all face death.  I want to ask you a question; if you died today, are you sure of where you would spend eternity?  If you had to stand before the gates of heaven
today and were asked why should you be allowed into heaven?  What would say?  What would your answer be?  You might say, I'm a good person, I haven't murdered anyone, I have done good my entire life, I work hard and I'm good to others.  None of these answers line up with the word of God.  God's word says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."  Ephesians 2:8,9 (NKJV)

You see, no matter how good you've been, or how bad you've been you can't work your way to heaven.  Salvation is a free gift of God.  You can't work for a gift or it's not a gift.  You can only receive a gift.

Free Gift
So how do you receive this free gift from God?  You believe.  The scripture says, "whoever believes in Him (Jesus)should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:15 (NKJV)

The bible continues to say, "That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."  Romans 10:9 (NASB)

You can begin your relationship with Jesus Christ today.  Jesus said, "I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me." Revelation 3:20 (NKJV)

Pray & Believe
Jesus stands at your heart’s door right now.  I encourage you to believe with all your heart, bow your head and pray in your own words something like this...
Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and I know that I need your forgiveness.  I believe that Jesus came and lived the perfect life in my place, that He was crucified on a cross, that He suffered and died for me.  I believe He was buried and on the third day He rose from the grave.  I believe that Jesus is Lord and I ask you now
Jesus to forgive me of all my sins.  I accept your free gift of salvation and I ask you come into my heart and be Lord of my life.  I thank you now Lord for forgiving me of all my sins.  I thank you now that I am your child and that you have given me eternal Life and one day, I will be in heaven with you.  Thank you, Lord for saving me. I give my heart and life over to you.  In Jesus Name I pray, amen.

Congratulations if you just prayed and invited Christ to come into your heart and life you have now become a Christian and the Spirit of the living God lives within you.  You have now become a new creation in Christ.  You are a child of God.  You are forgiven.  Your sins have been taken away.  Now when your life comes to a close you can rest assured that you have a home in heaven.  Jesus promises us saying "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you." John 14:2 (NKJV)

Now what?
Now What?  Once you have received Christ it is only the beginning of the greatest adventure of a life time.  You will need to maintain your new relationship with Jesus by feeding your spirit.  You will need to read the Bible to get to know this wonderful God and how it all began.  I suggest that you get an easy to read more modern translation of the Bible like the New Living Translation or New International Version.  If you can't afford to buy a bible, there are many places on line where you can read the bible for free.  Just like you need to eat every day, your spirit needs to be fed each day as well.  The word of God will teach you about God and it will feed your spirit.

You also need to find a good bible believing church to attend.  Look for a church that you are comfortable with.  This may take some time visiting several churches that preach and teach from the bible.  It will be good for your heart to fellowship with other believers and a place where you can learn and grow in your new relationship.  It would also be a good idea to meet with the Pastor of your church and tell him about your recent decision to give your heart to Christ and he can help answer any questions you may have.

The last thing I want to encourage you to do is to pray.  Pray every day.  Pray about everything.  God delights in our prayers and this is a way that you will get to know God.  Share your heart and your dreams with Him.  God wants to lead you in your new life, He wants to have a relationship with you.  As you pursue God, you will find Him and He will speak to you.  God has a purpose for you and a plan for your life.  It's up to you to find out what that purpose and plan is through cultivating a relationship with God.  My prayer is that He will become your best friend.
